Hello! I’m Ryan

Qualified Counsellor

I’m Ryan Thompson, and I’m a qualified counsellor. I have a diagnosis of BPD (borderline personality disorder) and I take medication for depression.

Maybe you’re thinking that’s not the best introduction given my own issues, but please let me assure you, I’ve lived the life and manage it too, which I feel is more of a learning curve and is as valuable as the theory-based practice itself.

I’m also a qualified personal trainer, so my interests are to support people with their physical and mental health.

Can I have a two hour session?

This is a common request, but one hour is more than enough. Sessions will can be quite intense and leave you with lots to consider. More than an hour would be counterproductive.

I'm really uncomfortable around other people, will this work for me?

Sessions are one to one. There will be no one else when we meet. I am a personal trainer and have my own gym with a comfortable seating area for us to have our session. Alternatively, if you prefer we can meet using Zoom or FaceTime.

How many sessions will I need?

A contract between you and your therapist will be drawn up where we’ll discuss and plan this.

Will I see the benefits immediately

There is no quick fix or correct answer to this. Therapy takes time and requires your commitment and patience during and after sessions over a period of time. Nobody can predict when or if you’ll experience any change. However, evidence suggests that talking about your problems, thoughts and feelings with trained professional can be very beneficial to change behaviours.

Can I stop the sessions any time?

Yes, of course. You are in control. If you want to stop the sessions, just let me know.
